Kate’s First Rock Climb

Today we went shopping in Park City and then stopped to do some rock climbing on the way back to Orem. Kate did her first climb. I was really bummed when I realized that we forgot the camera, so the pictures we did get were from a cell phone.

Our tradition is that whoever gets in a harness and climbs gets ice cream. It was so much fun to see Kate climbing with us this time.

Audrey got started really well. She reached up with both hands, latched on, and pulled her feet away from the rock. Her arms were tough – she hung there for a few seconds. I was trying to get Audrey to get a good hand hold so that we could get a picture, but as you can see in the second picture of her above that she didn’t like that idea too much.

We were climbing right next to the river, or creek, or whatever you call it and when we finished climbing, Jeana took the girls down to play by and in the water. Playing in the water seemed to be the highlight of their climbing experience for them today. My favorite part was the chocolate ice cream!

Playing Pioneers at Parker’s Place

Jodi (my sister) and Stephen have a new house in Rexburg (well, technically it is Sugar City, but it’s pretty much the same). They have such a fun house! Stephen added 2 slides to their swingset while the kids were playing outside. They also had a fun playhouse built into their basement.

When my parents moved, Jodi inherited the original Nintendo Entertainment System along with the “Power Pad”. Kate was adorable trying to run in place on the Power Pad. Jodi had created some high expectations with Mason (their son) that I could save the princess on the original Super Mario Brothers game. I was horrible trying to save the princess and didn’t make it very close! Alas, I haven’t played that game in well over 15 years!

Alexis was such a nice cousin. She pulled the other girls around in the make-shift covered wagon.

The Old Sammy

Our friends, Jon and Shay, moved to Rexburg recently. We had dinner with them at their new home. Jeana and Shay spent a lot of time together when we lived in Utah, and their son Sam, or Sammy, played with Audrey. After we moved to Austin, we found out there was another boy named Sam. The Sam from Utah was then named “the Old Sammy” but the new Sammy has since moved away, so the Old Sammy is just Sam again.

Not long before we moved to Texas, Jack was born to their family. When we showed up at Jon and Shay’s house, Shay was carrying Jack – but he looked just like Sam. They’re cute boys.

We sure miss you guys!

Bear World

Jeana’s parents wanted to take us to visit Bear World. Bear World is basically a zoo which features bears, hence the obscure name.

To see the bears, we had to drive in the car with windows rolled up. Grandpa was slow to roll up his window after paying the entrance fee. Audrey was quick to tell Grandpa his business and to get his window rolled up! Bear World also had a petting zoo with goats, deer, ducks, chickens, and a whole lot of dung from the said animals. Kate had a bit of a run in with a goat. Or, rather, the goat tried to run in to her. Kate would reach up into the animal food candy machines and the goats thought that Kate was going to feed them. They were about Kate’s size. When one walked up to Kate she held out her hand for the goat to lick her hand. Kate didn’t like it, she said, “OUCH!”

Jenny’s Lake

While we were in Idaho we decided to make a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and go to Jenny’s Lake. There is a ferry that you can take to cross the lake instead of hiking 2 miles. The ride was painful because it cost us $18!

Audrey got some new shoes and she turned into an awesome hiker! Her little legs were so cute to watch as she jumped from rock to rock and moved up the trail.

Kate enjoyed the hike from my back. We would step off the trail to touch the trees, leaves, and boulders so that she could feel like she was doing something.

We hiked up to Hidden Falls, which was about a mile or so from where the ferry docked.

We had so much fun being with our family!

Audrey is really into U.S. geography right now. We thought it would be fun to get pictures of us at each state line for the states we visited. On our way back from Jackson though, Audrey chose to ride with Grandma and Grandpa so only Kate got a picture crossing the Idaho/Wyoming border.
