Ah, to climb again…

I previously posted something about climbing in Utah with Audrey and Kate. We took them to the Dogwood Crag climbing area in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Earlier in the week, Jeana and I went climbing there by ourselves. It felt so good to be on the rock again, and by rock, I mean real rock. We each led a climb and then just climbed what the other person led.

FHE and Brad and Amy’s

For family home evening we went over to Brad and Amy’s house. Brad cooked some yummy salmon on the barbie and served it with a balsamic vinegar sauce that was awesome. I can’t believe how grown up their kids are. I’m bummed that I didn’t get to ever hear Dallen play the guitar. I told him that when we come to Utah next year we’ll have to get together and play YYZ (by Rush). It’s been about 10 years since I had the chops to cover that bass line so it’s good that I have a year to relearn it.

Audrey and Kate had fun playing with Abby and the other kids. Dallen and Bridget taught a good lesson for home evening. I missed a lot of it because Kate needed a diaper change that minute.

At Temple Square

On our first weekday in Utah, we went to temple square to see the sights. Seeing the film at the Joseph Smith building wasn’t practical. We’ve seen it with Audrey and she was a little scared during some parts. There was plenty of other stuff we wanted to see. I love walking around the North visitor’s center at temple square and looking at all the pictures of Jesus on the walls. Grandma Baldwin came along this time and walked around with us.

My Grandma

On our way from Idaho to Utah, we stopped in Blackfoot to see my grandma. We haven’t seen her for a while and it was really nice to say hello. My grandma actually grew up not far from where we ran our half marathon (in Marysville, Idaho). I think she’s now 92 (or 93) years old. There was a fun picture on the wall of her and my grandpa at the time of their wedding standing next to an old car. One of grandpa’s funny stories was that there was a law at the time they were married which said you could not drive an unmarried lady across the state line. Well, they lived in Idaho and were going to Salt Lake City to get married. When they approached the state line for Utah, grandpa says he made grandma get out and walk into Utah.
