For the last two years I’ve been telling Jeana and some of our friends that someday I would ride my bike to work. Every time I have said it I have been laughed at. Of course, the more I said it, the more I got laughed at. Well, as of today, no more laughing at me! Ok, you can still laugh at me, but not about riding my bike.

Our Jeep is on the fritz (probably a little knackered after driving all the way from Austin to Yellowstone), so we are currently a one-car family. Since today was a rare day that I needed to be in the office, I decided I would finally ride.

I got to the office in 29 minutes and 22 seconds. That’s really only about 9 minutes longer than it takes me to drive! When the time came to come home, my backpack felt a bit heavier than it did on my morning ride. I figure that’s because my sweat-drenched clothes from the morning ride were tucked into my backpack.

My ride home was pretty cool. I rode for 8 minutes from my office to Walnut Creek Park, which is full of many mountain biking trails (see Scot’s post about our recent ride). I cut into the park right next to the Simonsen’s house, and then rode Powerline Hill, Shady Springs, and Pool Lot trails as part of my route home. I was thinking I could do this all the time, then I had to climb a never-ending hill in a wall of hot wind up Yager Lane. I’m not sure I’ll do that again!

  1. Haha, you rode to work! Now we can laugh at you for doing it on a 102 degree day. JK. Good job and way to build in a little trail riding.

  2. Nice – I can’t imagine the heat/bike/wind combined!
