Slacklining

For Jeana’s family, we were supposed to come up with an activity for all the kids one day. Well, we setup the slackline in the back yard, and it was a magnet for all the kids – they loved it. Some of them got the hang of it rather quickly while others needed help.

Being the show-off that I am, and being around a number of others who were able to slackline, I tried to raise the bar and do some tricks. Pictured above you can see that you can do yoga on the slackline. Doing the Tree pose actually took me a long time to get my balance. I also tried a jumping 360 degree turn. I landed it once and took a quick step. Later on our trip, we setup the slackline in the mountains and I landed a 360 again.

Back to School

Last night we had our second annual Back to School Family Night, complete with lunch trays and a bus cake (well, cupcakes this time – last year’s was much cuter).  We asked some trivia questions while we ate our alphabet soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, and after five correct answers, they each got to pick out some school supplies for their prizes.

After dinner, we went to Audrey’s school to meet her teacher.  Since it’s a new school, we went to a ribbon cutting ceremony last week and snooped around the school a little.  When Audrey saw this classroom, she wanted it to be hers so bad because of the castle in the back corner.  What luck!

Everything went smoothly getting out the door, this morning.  The new school is so close she gets to ride her bike, while I run along beside her.  Kate rode her bike over to the school afterward to pick Audrey up with me.

Even though we missed her, Audrey had a great day of school.  She played with friends from last year and was eager to tell us all about her day.

And the day was finished off perfectly with a surprise rain storm.  We have had an extremely dry summer and after days and days of praying for rain, it finally came.  Audrey and Kate were so excited that they couldn’t help themselves from running out in their new school clothes.

Oquirrh Temple Open House

At the last minute, we made a reservation to visit the Oquirrh Mountain Temple (click the link to see construction photos, or find out why temples are built) open house. Audrey and Kate have wanted to go inside a temple for so long – this was the perfect opportunity. Audrey’s favorite part was seeing the baptismal font laid on the back of 12 oxen statues.

Jeana thought I looked funny wearing the baby carrying device (a.k.a. the Baby Bjornn). Her comment made me feel a little self-conscious, but then I saw another dad wearing one too, and my masculinity returned. I later saw a picture of a friend wearing one, which confirmed that, YES, it is acceptable for dads to utilize such a practical resource.

Of all the times that I have visited the Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park, I have never watched a geyser other than Old Faithful erupt. This year, we were there late enough in the afternoon to see the Beehive Geyser erupt. The funny part was that we were waiting for Old Faithful and then all the sudden (okay, we were told Beehive was due any minute) the Beehive Geyser erupted off in the distance. I was too lazy to walk down the sidewalk to get a better view – well, that and Old Faithful was also due to go off soon. For a short couple minutes, we saw both geysers simultaneously erupting!

Even though a picture is worth a thousand words, a thousand words cannot capture what this really looks like in person. So many times on this trip I asked myself, “Why do we live in Texas???”

Brad and Chanda’s Wedding

We enjoyed being at the temple in Rexburg to see Brad and Chanda’s wedding. Chanda was nice to let Audrey hold her bouquet. Audrey felt important. Brad and Chanda’s wedding day was so pretty and the temple was so beautiful against the clear blue sky.
