Reunions

In July, we headed to Edwards, Colorado (near Vail) for our Edwards family reunion.  We rented a condo and 26 of us stayed there together.

We had so much fun with our own little Amazing Race and Minute to Win it games.

The women-folk got some much needed R&R with some delicious breakfast, pedicures, and shopping.

A few weeks later, we headed to Stanley, Idaho for the Baldwin family reunion.  Each family stayed in our own little cabins.  We spent most of our time outdoors which was kind of tricky with temps in the 30′s at night and 80′s during the day.

This picture was taken right behind our cabin.  We had the most beautiful view.

We spent one day at Red Fish lake and had so much fun playing in the water and canoeing around.

Somehow we talked Audrey into doing a dive off the dock and swimming back to shore.  We told her we would canoe right along beside her in case she was tired. She got her goggles on and got all ready to go.  She dove in and then came up screaming because of the freezing water and jumped right back into the canoe.

She inspire Mason and Uncle Stephen to dive in too.

We decided to make an impromptu stop at Mesa Verde national park on our way through Colorado this year. The day was hot and long, but I am glad we did it!

The cliff dwellings were really awesome – they were 60 feet deep looking back into the cave! And the hole thingies (I can’t remember what they were called) were really deep too.

The “hole thingies” were a place where the dwellers would pray for rain, so Jeana told Audrey and Kate to pray for rain while they were down in there.

After a long day of walking around in the dusty cliff, you can only imagine how gross and nasty feet and flip-flops could become.

State Lines 2008

Stopping at state lines is fun to me. Our friends, Scot and Becca, have taken pictures of their daughter Riley with a stuffed animal to show how she has grown over the last year. I think taking photos at state lines is my equivalent.

Each time we approached a state line this last trip, we debated whether we should stop or not because Kate was usually asleep at those times. Her sleeping schedule was all over the place during this vacation, and the last thing we wanted was Grumpy Grumperson in the back seat!

We really need to plan something to do in Colorado because our route just clips the southwest corner of the state.

Idaho actually turned out to be a quick, unexpected trip. We decided we would go see my grandma in Blackfoot since we don’t get to see her very often.

Another way we justified the trip to Idaho was to also make a trip up to Yellowstone National Park in Montana. Pictures will come later of course. We had talked up Old Faithful for weeks before our trip and I was excited to take the girls to a place I went so many times as a kid.

There’s no place like home. Driving back into Texas is such a good feeling because two-thirds of the drive is done!
